Bioeconomic Modelling

What is our purpose?

We are an interdisciplinary research institute within the Faculty of Business and Economics at MENDELU, dedicated to advancing sustainable and economically viable strategies for environmental management. Our work centers on developing decision support systems through integrated bioeconomic modelling, promoting collaboration across disciplines and career stages, and fostering international research partnerships focused on forest management, agribusiness, and policy evaluation.

About our research team

We are an interdisciplinary research institute developing decision support systems for environmental management, with a particular focus on advancing sustainable and economically viable strategies for forest management and agribusiness. Our work includes designing and implementing optimization algorithms to evaluate trade-offs between timber production, biodiversity conservation, and climate mitigation, often employing simulation-based approaches with a strong emphasis on model validation. We apply advanced statistical and econometric techniques to estimate the economic value of forest ecosystem services and assess the impacts of policy interventions. Additionally, we manage large-scale environmental datasets, integrating machine learning techniques to enhance predictive modelling and data-driven solutions.
